The UN training portion for Drupal NYCCamp is tomorrow, and there has been a lot of last minute back-and-forth about the agenda. Communication with the volunteers has been challenging, as I was told it was last year too. Unfortunately, even with one year of experience, things don't seem to have improved much.
A volunteer / leader committed to delivering us two important technology platforms "in exchange" for our hosting NYC Camp, yet his track record has been questionable.
This is all to say that if we're committed to working with volunteers and communities of collective action, we'll have to figure out reliable methods.
Yes, they're driven by passion, and we can tap in to that. But we also need to get realistic about the level at which we can expect them to deliver. This is something to consider and learn from over the course of the week's events.
